With Child ~ Midwifery Care

If you are visiting my web site you are probably pregnant and considering a homebirth.

Congratulations!  Most people are not even aware that homebirth is an option.  Because you are aware of this option, it puts you far ahead of most moms in knowing what your choices are.

“If  you don’t  know  what  your options are, you don’t have any.”

My name is Vicki Johnson and I am a licensed midwife in WI and a Certified Professional Midwife doing homebirths in the WI/IL stateline area.  I have been in my own practice since 1997.  The CPM is the only credential available to maternity care providers that requires competency and experience in out-of-hospital births.
Homebirth is a unique experience.  It places the family at the center of the birth experience and what they want and don’t want during the labor and birth of their baby.  It also places more responsibility on the family for the choices they make.
Homebirth has been shown in numerous studies to be a safe choice for healthy, low-risk women.  Midwives have been assisting women with birth, in their homes, since the beginning of time.  I have assisted women from ages 18 to late 40's and mom’s having their first baby and those having their 10th.   Pregnancy and birth is not an illness or a medical event.  It is, for most women, a normal body and life process, and midwives are the “life guards” of this process.  We watch over your pregnancy, birth, the newborn and the postpartum period, but most moms will “swim” through labor and birth just fine with only my support and suggestions, not interference.
You have many options with homebirth; who will be there at your birth, will your other children participate, what you eat and drink, positions to labor and give birth in, soaking in a tub, showers or water birth, low to no interventions, (other than monitoring yours and your baby’s well-being, ) your baby into your arms right after birth and breastfeeding as soon as you are ready to start, the baby never leaves you and is near you for the newborn exam.  I also do VBAC’s (vaginal births after cesarean) for those mom’s who would like to avoid a repeat c-section.
You are in control of your labor and birth, with my assistance.  It is your home, your birth and your baby.  And I want you to have a safe, wonderful and empowering experience.

“The midwife considers the miracle of childbirth as normal and leaves it alone ...unless there is trouble.  The obstetrician normally sees childbirth as trouble, and if he leaves it alone...it is a miracle.”
